Mama Nsimire, Counselor
Mama Nsimire is a trained psychologist and nurse, counselor, mother, grandmother, and pastor’s wife.
Counseling is key in creating a caring environment where people feel valued. Counselors make home visits. They mediate family divisions. Counselors create a space where healing can begin. Mama Nsimire teaches by example, and by working with community-chosen psychosocial assistants in programs for internally displaced people learning new skills and making new relationships.
She leads UFEDOC, a partner of AGIR RDC, working with domestic workers in Goma and North Kivu.
Mama Nsimire Nyenyezi is Coordinator at Union de Femmes Domestiques du Congo (UFEDOC), a union for domestic workers. She was among our partners at HOLD-DRC who used data to identify domestic workers as a vulnerable population in DR Congo.
She directs a comprehensive gender-based violence prevention curriculum. Men and women teach about human rights and consent. Her husband is a pastor and teaches men about their roles in preventing violence.
Mama Nsimire is a trained NADA acupuncturist. NADA acupuncture focuses on managing trauma. She practiced this method for years in her capacity as Lead Counselor at HOLD DRC.
